Apart from an apology, I suggest a character talking about WWII experiences and flashbacks of what Filipinos did for him...that is a creative way of making up for the slur...g and not "ratting out" American GIs.

The guilt that the world never heard about this heroic act and people was agonizing for him as he approaches the end of his life...
